Living Room Motorcycle

Motorcycle in my living room

I worked on this while i was off work during the big snow storms that hit the Washington DC area last week. I wanted this bike out of my garage so I built this stand to hold the bike over my couch in my living room. I am going to decorate the rest of the wall with motorcycle related stuff. The stand is super strong and stable.

It's made out of 2"x2" square pipe with 1/4" thick walls. It comes in 24' pieces and it was $80 i think. I added 3"x1/4" thick braces in the proper places.

perfection. I had to use nearly all of my clamps.

After i got it built i put the bike on it and left it in my garage for a couple days to see if "anything" happened.

I installed it with my engine crane. There are brackets welded to the bike frame and bolted to the stand via welded tabs then the couch slides over it.

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

That's pretty cool. I just hope it doesn't drip any oil! What kind of bike is that anyway?

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

Yeah, really! I'd be sleeping in the well house if my wife came home and I had not only hung a motorcycle up in the living room, but did it with an engine hoist on the wood floors

Its ok if it does leak a little 'cause it looks like a leather couch.:nono:

All joking aside I really like it. Looks cool to me, but then again I ain't married.
Reminds me of a time when I was a wee lad and I helped my father rebuild a snowmobile in the living room. Don't remember Ma gettin' all bent outa shape about it but then again I was a wee lad and might not remember that part. Musta been about six years old and that was my first introduction to wrench'n. I do remember that it was a cold winter and we didn't have a heated shop on the farm.
And honestly the only thing I ever rebuilt in my living room was a chainsaw... really.
Keep up the cool work.

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

I'd like to see the room when you finish decorating around the bike. That could be really cool if done right. My wife allows me one room, in the basement of course, to decorate as my "mans room." lol

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

i like the idea. any ayhole can hang up a picture...

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

NICE!
I saw another picture of a small alcove above the bed in the master bedroom. Dude had a Ducati up there.

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

Best wall art I've seen in a LONG time!!!!

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

I had a bike in the dining room but I was in college at the time.

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

thanks for the comments guys. I'll try to answer some questions. the bike doesn't not leak, i drained the oil. It is a 1967 Yamaha YDS3. I broke a hard to find electrical part so it may never run again. I'm going to put other motorcycle related things on the wall like old motorcycle license plates, advertisements, my dads 25 year AMA membership pin collection and other stuff.

my living room has other old stuff. I am a collector of old mechanical things and old stuff in general. In my living room there is a 1950's Exercycle, turn style from a carnival, old coke sign, large cutout of Tina Turner, 3'x5' movie poster from an adult movie from the 60's i'm guessing, 1950's metal government desk, old adding machine, a couple of old fans, 1940's German bicycle, my old book collection, and other small random stuff.

I am not married but so far the motorcycle in the living room has been well received from the ladies. they know my love of motorcycles and other old stuff.

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

Now that is AWESOME! Talk about your conversation piece...just hope it never falls and whacks you in the head :D

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

i'd have like a little lever..........when your freinds sitting there , ya pull it'n squirt a little oil on his head , look up , sorry bout' that leaks a little all. then it'd be a great conversation piece

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

or maybe squirt a little rice , since it's a jap bike............is that a sex doll behind ur TV.?

yeah , not married.

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

LOL, is that an old AMF Harley Davidson tank on it? I like the bike on the wall but I'm a tad religious on bikes, it needs a Yamaha tank.

Re: Motorcycle in my living room

I was about to ask if it was an old Triumph, but then you posted it was a Yamaha. Great wall art, good build on the frame (and the bike!)

Somewhere online, I found some "wall art" of a Lamborghini hanging on the wall in some guy's house. Complete car (engine and everything), put there by crane, with a huge skylight above it so the car could be removed if necessary. On another forum, I also found the cab from a F-7 Santa Fe diesel locomotive that was placed in a guy's basement to use as a station for his model train layout - there was a full-sized restored Pullman car in there, too. It's amazing what people will do with unusual stuff ...

Here's some more "two wheel art" from OldMiniBikes.com:
